Why Do I Need an ETA if I Don’t Need a Visa?
Although Thailand’s visa exemption still exists, you must now register your trip in advance using the ETA system.
This new system allows Thai authorities to pre-screen travelers. There are similar systems in place in the UK, US, or EU.
So while you still don’t need a visa, the ETA is a legal requirement.
What Happens If I Don’t Have One?
Without an approved ETA:
- You might be refused boarding by the airline
- You could be stopped at the Thai border
- You’ll be delayed and may need to apply at the airport
Don’t risk being turned away. Apply before you travel.
Requirements for the Thailand ETA
The process is quick and can be done fully online. You do not need to visit your local Thai embassy or consulate. To apply, you must:
- Hold a passport from an eligible country (see the list above)
- Be entering Thailand under the visa exemption scheme: (for tourism, business, transit, etc.)
Documents needed to apply for the ETA
You’ll need the following documents to fill out your application:
- Valid and eligible passport
- Arrival and departure dates
- Hotel booking or address in Thailand
- Proof of return ticket
- Funds for your stay (10,000 THB minimum per person)
You don’t need to upload many documents. Simply enter your details, and we handle the rest.
